Ordering Repeat Prescriptions
The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:
· using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App). You can also book appointments, view your medical record, see your vaccine status, get your COVID pass, gain information on your health and register to become an organ donor.
These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.
You can also:
- Bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Thursday from 8:00am to 6.30pm, Fridays 8:00am to 1:00pm
- Through Patient Access (if you have an account)
- Ask your nominated pharmacy to request on your behalf.
We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or email.
We can only issue new medication that has been prescribed/advised by the hospital when we have received a letter from the hospital/consultant. If the Practice feels there is a better alternative then this may be prescribed instead. Letters can be forwarded to our email address clinicalinfo.m91647@nhs.net
If you are going on holiday and need to order your medication early please inform us. Prescriptions will not be issued if it looks like you are overusing.
Over the counter medications are no longer issued on prescription. Please speak to your local chemist about over the counter medications.
When you order a prescription online, you can have your prescription sent electronically to a pharmacy of your choice. This is called a nomination.
Once you nominate a pharmacy:
- you will no longer need to collect paper prescriptions from your GP surgery
- your nominated pharmacy will receive your prescriptions until you change or remove your nomination
- any outstanding prescriptions you have ordered may still arrive at your current nominated pharmacy
You can nominate a high street pharmacy in the NHS App. A high street pharmacy is where you collect your prescriptions in person. They may also deliver to your home.
Online-only pharmacies send your prescriptions to you in the post. To nominate an online-only pharmacy, you must register with the pharmacy through their website or contact them. It’s not possible to nominate an online-only pharmacy in the NHS App.
Collecting your Prescription
You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
· on the NHS app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
· at your GP practice
· at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
Questions about your prescription
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
· Go to Medicines A to Z (nhs.uk)
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:
· phone our pharmacist on 01922 775136
· fill in our medication query form.
Medication Reviews
If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.
